My Culinary Craving

Hello, world! Welcome to Culinary Cravings. Here, you'll find new recipes, recipes from around the blog world, food photography, and much more.

To start off, I want to let you know what my culinary craving has been this week. Chocolate. That wonderfully creamy and beautiful substance. If you do not like the taste of chocolate, then this is not the blog for you! Chocolate is a major part of my life.

There are many mug cake recipes on food blogs, but mug cakes don't have the same taste as a real oven-baked cake. I was looking for a single-serving dessert that had the same quality taste as a cake made in the oven.

And....................................I found it over at Cake For One. That website is wonderful. I highly suggest you go and visit them.

Anyway, this cake was super simple, oven-baked, and absolutely delicious. It was moist, fudgy, and had a perfect crust on top, which mug cakes are often missing.

I, being absent-minded, did not take pictures of mine. However, Cake For One has pictures and mine looked just like this. (minus the lovely and fancy fork cocoa dusting)

Chocolate Cake For One

After that mouthwatering photo, are you ready for the recipe? Here we go.

Serving Size: 1 (unless you're generous and want to share)

Ingredients:
2 TBSP Brown Sugar

2 TBSP Butter

2 TBSP Chocolate Chips

1 Small Egg

4 TBSP All-Purpose White Flour

2 TBSP Cocoa

1/8 tsp Baking Powder
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 360 F.
2. Butter and flour one ramekin; set aside.
3. In a medium bowl, cream butter and sugar until soft. (if you don't want to use a mixer you can either use a pastry cutter, or soften the butter slightly in the microwave and stir with a spoon)
4. Add your egg and whisk until lightly fluffy.
5. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave (unless you want to use a double boiler). Let cool a bit and mix with other ingredients.
6. Sift flour, cocoa, and baking powder in your bowl; stir until smooth.
7. Spoon batter into ramekin and bake for 18 minutes. (start checking for doneness about 16)
8. Insert a toothpick to check for doneness. The center will be fudgy, so check the sides of the cake.

Variations:
Top with whipped cream and berries to add some refreshment.
Split open the center of the cake and spread peanut butter or Nutella for an extra flavor experience.
Come up with your own ideas: add your favorite frosting, melt white chocolate and drizzle on top. The possibilities are endless!

What are your culinary cravings?
